Our Mission

The Foundation's primary charitable activity will be to make grants to organizations working to improve the economic, health, education and social issues in Mozambique, including, but not limited to, making grants to the Lurdes Mutola Foundation.

The Foundation will make grants to the Lurdes Mutola Foundation in two ways:

1. The Foundation will pre-approve funds or projects for specific charitable purposes in accordance with Revenue Ruling 66-79. Foundation donors can then make donations to these specific, pre-approved funds of the Foundation. Before making grants from these specific project funds, the Foundation will require the Lurdes Mutola Foundation to execute a grant agreement substantially similar to the form that we have attached in response to Question 13 below. After granting any such funds to the Lurdes Mutola Foundation, the Foundation will require reports and accounting to show that the Lurdes Mutola Foundation has spent the funds for those specific charitable purposes or projects.

2. The Foundation may also receive donations from donors who have chosen to give to the Foundation as a whole or for a very general fund rather than a specific pre-approved project or fund of the Foundation as discussed above. In those cases, the Foundation foresees making grants to the Lurdes Mutola Foundation, but only for specific charitable purposes or projects that the Foundation's Board selects. As with the pre-approved projects and funds, the Board will require reports and accounting to ensure that the funds have been used exclusively for the projects selected by the Board. The Board will exercise full discretion and control over any such funds received, in accordance with example four of Revenue Ruling 63-252.

The Foundation is not limiting its potential grantees to the Lurdes Mutola Foundation. The Foundation recognizes that it may encounter other organizations that have specific activities that may further the Foundation's goals of working to improve the economic, health, education and social issues in Mozambique. For example, these may be educational institutions, health care institutions or other charities in Mozambique. The Foundation may in the future make grants to such organizations, in accordance with Revenue Ruling 66-79 if the Foundation approves a specific fund or project in advance, and in accordance with example four of Revenue Ruling 63-252 if it has not.
